Squires' Battalion is not included in the book because it was not organized specifically as a Louisiana unit in the same manner as the 8th Louisiana Heavy Artillery Battalion or Washington Artillery. It included Texas batteries as well as Louisiana batteries.

The same can be said for most of the artillery battalions that existed during the war. They were combinations of batteries from one or more states, usually organized in 1862 and after. Their purpose was the more efficient use of artillery on the battlefield rather than an attempt to group batteries from a particular state.
