Squires' Battalion had been the Reserve Battalion of Dick Taylor's army, and Squires assumed command of it late during the Red River Campaign. It was a light artillery battalion. The Siege Train Battalion consisted of heavy artillery companies and had no connection with Squires' Battalion. What exactly did the pension application say about C. M. Illsey's service in the two battalions?
