Re: Parole Records from Boothe's Records

I obtained a couple of pension applications filed at different times. Actually the parole record says very little and is not related to what you want to know.

The Pension Application asks for verification of Service. So our ancestor's supplied information about what units of Service. The first application did not supply support evidence and was rejected, they couldn't find information relative to Service. Quite interestingly, the Northern Army (War Department) actually had records of CL Ilsley at the Battle of Atlanta, CM's first cousin.

They had no record of CM however, anywhere.

The second application supplied the sworn (probably notarized) testimony of an 89 year old veteran. I'll have to look at the copy of this one to get his name. Again, they rejected this application because they couldn't find record of his service.

Boothe has him Paroled at Alexandria Louisiana in 1865. I have his Marriage Application/Liscense in 1866 to Adele Pascall from New Orleans. The same person (my GGGMother) filed both Pension Applications.

I have come across other support information, which documents a discussion where it says "The Judge has several sons in Service to the COnfederacy". JH, CM, were the son of Judge JH Ilsley, CM was his nephew. I suspect they grouped them all together.

I am beginning to believe that the sparce information was there because by the time he became really active, the documentation side of Army Life was a second priority. The Battles that they went into were earth shakers and really took a toll on resources. Still I am amazed at what we have been able to piece together in a year.
