Re: Taylor Hospital and Surgeons

Gentlemen,

Perhaps, you will find this portion of a 1864 letter of interest. The letter was concerning the health of Jefferson Morgan of TX who died at the Taylor Hospital the following day...July 7, 1864.

Camp near Alexandria, La. July 6th 1864
Mrs. A. A. Morgan. Dear Madam I feel it to
be my duty to drop you a few lines to let you know the
true condition of your husband, my much-esteemed
Brother Soldier. He is now lying in the Taylor Hauspital
Sick Six miles from this Camp. His disease is typhoid fever.
He is very Sick but as yet not dangerous the building whear
He is sick is one of the finest Structures I ever saw built by the
State of La. for a Colege and one of the best kept hauspitals
in the South the sick have every attention necessary. Jeff has a
good bed and plenty of the best of water and all He needs now.

The letter continues, but thought this portion would be of interest. I believe the site of the Taylor hospital "may be" the current site of the VA Hospital in Pineville. LSU had it's origins at the VA site.

I am very interested in the exact location of the Taylor Hospital and any records that might surface.
