Mr. Grady,

I looked as best I could for a record of this man in the Louisiana Confederate pension index with no luck. I got the same results as Mr. Gillespie in Booth's Record of Louisiana Confederate Soldiers and at the Civil War Soldiers & Sailors Sytem.

As stated, please give us as much information on him as you can. Date and place of birth, date and place of death, spouse's name, children's names etc. It may be he enlisted under a different first name as he later went by. There is an example of that in my family. My cousin Abraham Roberts served in a Mississippi regiment but after the war he insisted on being called Abram.

Here is another thought. His records may be lost. Many Confederate soldier records are lost and in some cases records were poorly kept in the first place, especially in Cavalry units and toward the end of the war. But don't give up. I have a 3rd great-uncle who, outside family history has no proof of service either. But I found him on the Calcasieu Parish United Confederate Veterans roster.

Finally, researchers make mistakes too and he may be listed wrong. In any case, keep his memory alive and best wishes to you in your quest.
