I guess the needs of the living trumped. But you mention and I've always found it interesting that when new and/or "better" cemeteries are established, people of means often moved their illustrious ancestors to the new location to be with them. I think this had to do with the improvement in cemeteries beginning in the 1830s with Evergreen and Mount Auburn. Otherwise, in this case, no one might have known. Or maybe the wife was mistakenly accused and ground water was the cause.
