Re: New Grave Marker 2nd LA Cav Marsden Campbell

David

I appreciate hearing that the grave marker for Marsden A. Campbell of Co. A, 2nd Louisiana Cavalry is to be replaced with ceremonies and wish I could attend. Will there be any mention of his service in Rightor's 1st Special Battalion of Louisiana Infantry? Thank you for this successful effort. Hopefully a picture of the new markers will become available shortly after the installation.

Can you, or anyone else on the LA CW message comment on his relationship to William Simpson Campbell and James Green Campbell. William Simpson Campbell was also in Rightor's 1st Special Battalion of Louisiana Infantry, and later a member of Co. S, 2nd LA Cavalry. After Medical School in New Orleans, James Green Campbell apparently served briefly in Strawbridge's 1st LA Regular Infantry and then as an Asst. Surgeon (F&S, Major) in the 2nd Louisiana Cavalry. I see, in several places, the three mentioned as brothers. However, W S and J G are not listed in the 1850 US Census as sons of Dr. Marsden Campbell of Opelousas. A relationship between the three seems logical, but I don't find any documentary evidence. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for the notice of the installation of the new headstone, and the ceremonies of installation.

Don
