Re: New Grave Marker 2nd LA Cav Marsden Campbell

David

Thanks for the additional information. Everything I have run across strongly suggested that the three men were brothers, including the information on Ancestry.com. The absence of the two older brothers (WSC and JGC) in the 1850 St Landry Parish census confounds documenting the relationship, however. By 1860 JGC was at medical school in New Orleans, WSC was in business in New Orleans, and MC was at home in Opelousas. The result was two US censuses (1850 & 1860) with no documented connection between the three men. †he service of MC and WSC in Dreux's Bttn., and the service of all three in the 2nd LA Cavalry, does lead one to think they were brothers. The family trees uniformly relate the men, but none provide clear documentary connection. The pension information on William Simpson Campbell is very good information and I appreciate learning about it.

I appreciate your response very much and I look forward to hearing about the dedication ceremonies in October.

Don.
