Since the Crescent Regiment that fought at Shiloh was accepted in New Orleans as a ninety-day command (highly unusual if not unique for March 1862), it would be interesting to know when the regiment received its arms and who issued them - State of Louisiana or the Confederate government. With the city of New Orleans under immediate threat of attack, Governor Moore was becoming increasing sensitive about Lousiana troops and arms being taken out of state or taken away from state authority. The Crescent Regiment was one of three state volunteer militia units to enroll in Confederate service and leave the state prior to capture of New Orleans.
