Company Commander

As often as I have researched a particular ancestor, I know very little about a Company Commander. The man in question was in an infantry regiment and fought in the Army of Northern Va. For a good portion of the war he was the Co. Commander of the Catahoula Guerrillas from La.
I have no knowledge of the armament he would have carried or if he was afoot or on horseback. I know from his service record what he was paid and when. I know he made various requests for himself and various members of his Co. Some of you appear to be very knowledgable about the officers at this level of command. I hope some of you may enlighten me a bit....thank you, Mike Dale
