Joseph H. Dale He started signing as "commanding company" after Spencer was killed at Groveton on Aug. 28, 62. He was wounded himself on Aug. 30 at the unfinished railroad cut. He was in the hospital and recouperating for the next couple of months.
I have always wondered about his life and duties from late 62 until his capture at Cedar Creek Oct. of 64. He was wounded several times and led his company through most of those famous battles in Pa. and Va.
