Per Bergeron's Book - assignments = 1st La Spec Batt (June 1861); then 1st Zouave Battalion (after break up of Wheat's Battalion?); 7th La Battalion (May 1862); then finally 15th La Rgmnt (August 1862 - end of war).
Originally the Cats were to be a Cavalry unit, but did not have horses, so hooked up with Major Wheat's group. Ross Brook's wrote an article entitled "Part Irish and the Rest the Flower of Southern Chivalry," which initial Company uniforms were discussed. Military Collector and Historian Vol. 51, No. 3 -- Fall 1999. This provides a bit of information on Wheat’s Battalion and individual companies.
My suppositions, based on knowledge (which is limited ;-)) this for Capt Dale – when in command after April 18, 1864:
Arms – probably a pistol and sword. I have read where some officers this late in the war also carried a rifle. Hard to say what type of pistol or sword carried. He was made a 2nd Lt in 1862. May have to go back there and see if he purchased a pistol or sword. Pistol, based on numbers available during the war possible a Colt Army/Navy or perhaps Remington. About .44 caliber.
Mounted – probably not. Officers had to purchase their mounts. In this late stage of the war (’64), would suspect mounts were going for a goodly amount.
