Dear Bruce,

What a tremendous posting and thanks for the kind words. The message board is only as good as the contributions of people like you.

The George C. Newton in Nodoway Twp., Holt County in 1860 is my ancestor. This family came from Clark County, KY abt. 1830 and settled for a short time in Boone County. In 1840 and 1850, Joseph Newton, the father of George was living in Howard County. In 1850, George C. Newton was in Linn County. In 1860 the family appears in Holt County. In 1870, George and family are living in Caldwell County. George disappeared in the Indian Territory sometime after 1880. I have always presumed that George had Southern sympathies, due to the facts that his brothers and cousins are predominantly listed in Confederate units and that prior to the war he was a small-scale slaveholder. George was born abt 1825.

Here's what I have for the roster of Company "G" of Jackman's Regiment from the Broadfoot Roster of Confederate Soldiers.
