5/29/1901---Dallas Morning News

EXCERPT ONLY:

Hon. J. L Stephenson of Abilene, member of the Democratic State Executive Committee, was in Dallas yesterday on a business mission. Recently a press dispatched conveyed the information that a gentleman who lives in Abilene and whose name is very similar to that of the State committeeman from the Abilene district, was shot in a West Texas county. "A good many people have taken it that the dispatch related to me, and I have received letters of sympathy from friends in all parts of the country, many of them tendering their services if I would call on them." said Mr. Stephenson. "This manifestation of friendship is very gratifying to me, but I would like to have it understood that my anatomy has not been punctured by a bullet. It is a Mr. Stevenson who suffered the misfortune.
