For those wondering, Hookrum [Hookram] was the old name for Evening Shade. This is the Evening Shade in north central Arkansas. There is another Evening Shade in southern Arkansas. We are the one with the post office and the one the TV show was named after lol!!!!! There have been several stories told about how it received the name Hookrum.

As to Douthitt, he was Captain Uriah J. Douthitt and served in the Union Army during the Civil War. After the war, he served on the Freedman's Bureau in Evening Shade. He was murdered on Christmas Day and his murder was never solved.
