Re: Arthur, Alva and James Devers

Actually, John's father's name was Alexander. I don't have a lot on him. He died in 1790 and the courts awarded custody of him (John Jr) and his sister, Peggy (Margaret) to his brother John. John (the brother) had a son named John Jr. I can only imagine the kind of confusion this started. All I can think of is that John and Alexander were so close that Alexander named his son after his brother. So ... eventually John ended up with two Jr's in his household. The information regarding the court's decision can be found in the civil court minutes of Madison County, KY. Peggy married John Prather and died before her uncle passed away. In 1825, John Prather filed a suit to sue the estate of John Dever Sr for his deceased wife's portion for their children. None of my information states how old John and Peggy were when they came to live with their uncle but I found a marriage record for Peggy Dover to John Prator (Prather) dated 3 May 1791. Do any of you have birth dates for John and perhaps Peggy?

My thanks in advance and I hope this information was of some help :)
Feel free to email me at yolanda.neal@verizon.net I'd love to fill in some of Alexander's portion of the family. I'm trying to locate the father of John and Alexander.
