Kirby: The pre-war militia certainly sounds logical. I am reasonably certain that rolls of the pre-war militia (state-wide at least) do not exist. Not all members of the Missouri State Guard were secessionists, of course, but I can hardly believe that someone of Johnston's proclivities would have joined that organization under any circumstances.
