Judy,

I have done research on this company since my great-grandfather served in the unit.

According to the ANNUAL REPORT OF THE ADJUTANT GENERAL OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI FOR 1863 (published Saint Louis, Mo., 1864) Capt. Hart's Company K, 1st U. S. Reserve Corps, Cole County Home Guard, had an aggregate strength of 51 men. The officers were: Capt. Andrew J. Hart, 1st Lt. Thomas J. Hart, 2nd Lt. Samuel B. Richardson. The company served for only 90 days (July 3 thru October 1, 1861). My research has shown it performed duty guarding the railhead at Tipton, Missouri, for approximately 7-10 days, and then was moved closer to home guarding the bridge over Moreau Creek. (I assume the bridge on the road from High Point to California, Missouri. Present-day Missouri Highway 87 follows the old road.) The company may have performed some duty at Jefferson City, but not for very long.

Andrew Hart operated a mercantile in High Point. The building it was in is part of the cluster of old buildings which stands along the south side of County Road C on the eastern end of the town. You might like to know, Andrew Hart was the father of Louis F. Hart, who served as the Governor of the State of Washington (June 14, 1919-January 12, 1925).
