I am nowhere near being an authority on Osceola. Wasn't Osceola sacked and burned prior to the Harris/Vaughn event referred to? Wasn't the entire town burned? Was the southern-supporting bank still standing after the town was burned? And was the bank that Lane is alleged to have robbed disbursing its deposits to depositors after he robbed it?
Back to the heart of the matter--the allegation of the executions of men protecting the bank, and the alleged personal participation of a United States Senator as a member of the firing squad. Making accusations of a vast conspiracy of silence that would have involved local southern supporters as well as generations of local historians and newspaper editors and reporters is one way to go. Producing documentation is another. Why would these people keep Lane's participation secret through the 1860s, 70s, 80s, 90s, then through the entire 20th century, and on into the 21st century?
Playing devil's advocate here. Thanks for your insights.
