In Response To: Pauline White Pardon ()

Cletis,

There are records available in the Provost Marshal files, which you may obtain for a minimal charge by making a request to the Missouri State Archives. You can do this on their web site. They will copy them for you and send you a response stating the cost for copies. They will mail them to you after your check is received. The online index includes reference to an oath of allegiance she signed on October 19, 1862. It includes her physical description. On June 18, 1864, J. P. Sanderson reports her arrival as a prisoner in St. Louis. On January 20, 1865, she wrote, probably to the Provost, stating she was arrested and sentenced to imprisonment for the term of the war, and asks to be released on oath of allegiance. Also on that date James S. McMarty wrote a letter in her behalf stating he believes she will be loyal if released. All these records are contained on microfilm roll F1417. This number is the Missouri State Archives roll, which will differ if you get the same roll from the National Archives, where the original documents are held. She is also included in a list of prisoners ordered to appear before a military commission in St. Louis, dated June 25, 1864, which is found on roll F1616. Perhaps there is some information in these documents which will help you in finding some details of her story.
