Josiah L. Bledsoe

I would very much like to contact Bruce Nichols or someone else who is knowledgable about Quantrill's guerrillas.

I have studied and collected information on the "Red Legs" and other pro-Union guerrilla bands originating in Kansas during the Civil War. One of my most favorite subjects is John Lyman Bridges--"Jack Beauregard", an important member of George H. Hoyt's Red Legs.

Some years back I found information concerning Bridges testifying at the trial of George Maddox, the only Quantrill raider brought to trial for the attack on Lawrence. Surprisingly, Bridges was called as a witness for the defense, testifying about the execution of Capt. John D. Holt's two wounded men carried in a hack when Quantrill withdrew from Lawrence. John McCorkle in his book identified one of the two as Tom Hamilton. The other was 2nd Lt. Josiah L. Bledsoe, Co. F, 5th Regt., Mo. Cav. Bledsoe was a resident of Lafayett Co., Mo., and a brother of Capt. Hiram M. Bledsoe ("H. M. Bledsoe's Co, Mo. Lt. Art.") and Capt. Joseph Bledsoe ("Capt. Joseph Bledsoe's Co., Art.") All three brothers were connected at one point or another with Shelby's Brigade.

Can Bruce Nichols or anyone else provide me with more information about Josiah L. Bledsoe or Tom Hamilton?
