The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: General Jo Shelby's March (New Book)

Leonard,

I am not here to debate with you over Jo Shelby's "feelings", which I think are generally unknowable. Your "source" is a website. The information posted at Thomaslegion.net, should be sourced or it should not be online. Your characterization of Jo Shelby as a "romantic" is your opinion. Would you call the tories who fled the United States after the defeat of the British romantics? I was hoping you would understand my need to post a reply to you, as I've noted a number of your posts are opinion-based. You seem to have a strong Unionist stance, which is just fine, but if you make critical or derisive statements about a Civil War figure, either Union or Confederate, please substantiate your position with a period letter, an Officials Record report, memoir or something more. I don't mean to single you out, but if I don't ask that postings be "on-topic" and historically sourced, the message board will degenerate into discussions of views and opinions, rather than, reliable factual data.

If you'd like to discuss your views and opinions, you might very much enjoy our "Civil War News and Views; Open Discussion Forum" at http://history-sites.com/cgi-bin/bbs53x/nvcwmb/webbbs_config.pl .

Thanks for your participation and your cooperation.

Jim Martin
