If I remember the accounts of the Pilot Knob Battle, the Confedederates did place a two-gun battery on Shepherd Mountain and began bombarding the fort. However, the story goes that the artillerymen at Fort Davidson had practiced their craft in sighting on the mountain. After a few shots the CSA battery was disabled. If this is incorrect, someone please correct me.
