I think the highest compliment that means anything is being able to help somebody. You are welcome.

With such a large southern population in Howard County, it seems reasonable that rural families would take the bodies of dead southerners to the local cemeteries so these men's families could come later to pay respects or even move them. Families do that for other families, even if they did not know the identity of these dead southerners.

Private Frick saw the dead black man, that's for sure. The real question is where Frick obtained his information about the dead man's identity. Donald Hale and others in their writing told about one or two trusted black men who rode with Quantrill's band and even scouted and spied for the guerrillas. I do not recall reading that Bill Anderson had such black men ride with him, but it is possible. Not very probable, but possible.
