Thank you both for your replies. I don't have much info on James Rose. I do know that in 1850 he was living in Philadelphia and working as a ship carpenter. He spoke with a Scottish brogue. My grandfather told me this, as his grandfather also spoke with a brogue. One of James's grandson's name was Forrest. Evidently he worked on boats all of his life. His one son went on to Fort Madison to work for a while after the war, James might have been there.
