For what it's worth, the distance to Fort Leavenworth on the Missouri River from St. Louis, 1856, was 499 river miles, to it's terminus at St. Joseph it's 591 miles, Kansas 457.

The record fastest time, St. Louis - St. Joseph was made by the Steamer Polar Star which made the trip in 64 hours, 1853.
