Union blockhouse in Columbia

Does anyone know anything about the Union blockhouse in Columbia? I know it was at the intersection of 8th St. and Broadway but I haven't been able to find out more about it. I believe it was manned by the Tigers, the local militia.
As a bit of fun, I mention it in my Civil War novel and have it placed there not only to protect a busy intersection, but also to protect the drygoods store at that same intersection owned by my fictional Union captain. He's not too popular with the local rebels and he's afraid of having his business torched!
