General Dodge ordered the blockhouses built by and for the local citizen guards when he took command of the Department of the Missouri on 9 December 1864. He issued that word to his district commanders about December 18. At least you will be able to date the Columbia blockhouse between late December 1864 and about June 1865 when the war ended in Missouri, if you were looking for local photos of it.
