Obituary for a Soldier in the 3rd Missouri Inf.

While doing some research today I found this obituary in THE WEEKLY STANDARD (Port Gibson, Mississippi) December 9, 1865. With the hope that some of his descendants might be looking for him, I post the obit here:

"DIED - At the Dunbarton place, Nov. 29th, 1865, at 8 o'clock, P.M., Geo. W. Morrison, of Co. A, 3d Reg't Missouri Infantry, C.S.A., of wounds received in battle at Kennesaw Mountain, June 27th, 1864, aged 26 years, 1 month, and 14 days. 'Rest thou noble patriot, rest, with comrades up in heaven blest, Death was no Terror King to thee, 'Twas God who set thy spirit free'
We had the pleasure of meeting the venerable father of the gallant soldier whose death is recorded in the above. With tears, and a voice tremulous with grief and mental suffering, he recounted to us his sorrows. A lawyer by profession, he has not only been disfranchised, but is not allowed, under the proscriptive dynasty of madness that reigns in Missouri even to practice his profession. He had with him another gallant soldier son, who left his family in July, 1861, and has not dared to venture to them since, and dare not yet do so. Did ever soldiers suffer, and endure, and fight, and die, as those noble Missourians have done in the late war! The noble boy whose death we now announce was wounded nearly eighteen months ago, and was buoyed up during all that time with the delusive hope of recovery, but his hopes are all suddenly blighted, and he dies in the bloom of youth, in his aged fathers arms, a martyr to the land he loved, adding another to the many thousand vacant chairs, mournful memorials of household sorrows. Yes, 'furl that banner'! 'Furl it, for the hands that grasped it, and the hearts that fondly clasped it, cold and dead, are lying low. And that banner, it is trailing, while around it sounds the wailing of its people in their woe."
