Jim you may know all this already but in the FWIW category, Hunter has a misc. service card that references that he was initially a Lt Col as early as Aug 21, 1861 and Col as late as March 5, 1862 in the 2nd Regt MSG. The reference for that entry is listed as Confederate Archives, Chap 2, vol 2071/2, pages 32, 71, 89, 93, 99, 151, 212, and 235.

There is a second card indexed under I H Hunter that lists his service as Lt Col 4 Regt Infantry F&S, 1st Div MSG with an enlistment date June 24, 1861 expires Sept 9, 1861.

A third card lists him as Sgt Major of the same unit on July 17, 1861.

A fourth card then lists him as Capt then Major of Co A, 2nd Battalion Cav with 1st Div MSG from Oct '61 to Dec 5, 1861.
