Photo of Fremont Rangers

Visual aids are always good for presentations and I have a digitized one that touches upon your project in a peripheral way that might be appealing to your audience -- A panoramic company photo was taken -- at what appears to be around the time of their 1865 muster out -- of what started out as Company B, Fremont Rangers, became Company D, 12th MSM and evolved into Company K, 5th MSM Cavalry.

The format this image survives in isn't exactly a photo, per se. It's a photo published on what appears to be some sort of newspaper-like broadsheet for mass distribution. Despite it's format, it is a fine quality image however.

It appears to be the entire company as it existed at the time, ca. 1865, in uniform, holding sabers (38-men, which would be about right for a war-depleted cavalry company). All standing in a line, with their officers (Flentge, Wolpers, Storz) standing forward. Every trooper is identified by name under his image.

A brief history of the company is on it, including specific reference to the company originally being organized by Flentge and mustered in by "Capt. L. Murdoch." "Both are well known for their gallantry," it says. Going beyond the names listed under the the soldiers in the image, it also includes a listing of every man who ever belonged to the company and their fate--discharged, transferred, died--and the date of that fate.

It isn't the exact company the subject of your presentation served in, and some, or possibly many, in the photo likely didn't even serve in the company at the time it was the Fremont Rangers. But...you could cross reference the names in the photo and identify the Fremont Rangers in the image, and use it by qualifying it (much as I have done in this post) as a company originating as Fremont Rangers and as fellow battalion-mates of your guy.

When you give your presentation, perhaps you'll think about streaming it.

I've never seen an image quite like this one, and it's begging to be used. I've run across lots of group photos taken at post-war reunions, but I can't recall seeing anything like this taken during the war of a Missouri unit.
