Richard Crowson's slave Henry, enlisted in the 65th USCT. He was in Company B, listed age was 24 and he was assigned his owners last name, thus known as Henry Crowson. The same can be said about a 22 y/o slave named Daniel that belonged to Richard's mother Jane Crowson.
Henry mustered into the 65th USCT on 18 Dec 1863 at Benton Barracks. He was duly discharged at the end of 3 years on 17 Dec 1866. He is listed as 6 feet, dark hazel eyes, black hair, copper complexion. He ends up sick in the post hospital in Baton Rouge La, admitted Sept 4, 1865. He stays there until November. He returned to service until discharged, left to his own devices in Baton Rouge.
Henry volunteered and was enlisted by WT Snell, Provost and recruiting officer Fulton MO on Dec 14,1863. He was examined and declared fit for duty by Dr. Jonathon W Martin of Fulton.
He did receive a pittance for an invalid pension late in life. Sadly the index card gives little information and I haven't found Henry anywhere after his discharge.
