Re: David Upton and Others: Co. A, 39th Mississipp

On behalf of my friend, Ted Harper, I want to thank all of you for your time and every effort to uncover his own Confederate roots and history.

I plan to pull together your findings and present them to Ted in a unified way and let him know who did the real work on all your discoveries. I know for sure all of you will have made him very happy and, for the first time in his 82 years, he will know much more about his Confederate ancestors than at any other past time.

For your information, Ted enlisted during WW II, but could not serve because of a heart murmur. Instead, he took a job with the FBI and was mainly concerned with national security matters during WW II. After that, building on the reputation he had earned, he took a security job with the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation and, of all places, was assigned to Kelly Johnson's "Skunk Works" security detail, then concerned with U-2 development, which assignment he held until about the time Gary Powers was shot down over the Soviet Union.

I thought it might lend something to the work you have done for Ted to know a little bit about his background.

Again, thanks much to all of you. You have done a mighty big favor for a most deserving gentleman.
