Forrest's Men - Armament

I recall reading, and I don't know where that in addition to Forrest's men carrying Colt Navy Sixes and other period revolvers, they also tended to carry full-length rifled muskets. Is this generally correct? Were sabres/swords generally NOT carried by the enlisted men?

The author made a point of describing Forrest's men as the equivalent of Dragoons or Mounted Infantry. He attributed much of their effectiveness to their ability to fight at long-range like infantry, but to have tremendous firepower, due to the revolvers at close range.

The author was promoting a theory that Forrest with 10,000 such men could've done significant damage, much like Wilson's Raiders did in 1865.

Were Forrest's men armed this way? Do you agree that they were Civil War era Dragoons?
