Re: 7th Miss. Cato Letters carlisle barracks

Thanks to the ever vigilant eyes of George Martin, we have an entirely new group of letters about the war time life of Lt. John A Cato Co. E 7th Miss. Inf. and 4th Miss. Cav. The letters and documents cover the years 1861-1864. Cato's letters while in the 7th Miss. conclude in April of 1862. He served a time with the 2nd Quartemasters and then at the Camp of Instruction at Brookhaven through 1863. He then joined the 4th Miss. He was Killed in action at Harrisburg in July of 1864.

Our fellow board friend, Art Bergeron, who works at Carlisle Barracks, was very helpful in digging up this huge file. Even though many of the letters have been previously found in other locations, having a safe depository for the collection at Carlisle Barracks has been a godsend. We also have reconnected to Jim and Sandy Steele descendants of Cato's who are helping us to determine which letters held by the family are not included in the collection.

We will order those that the family does not already possess.
