I can relate.
I had a cousin, a Pearce from Indenpendence County, Arkansas with the 8th, that died that first day and is believed to
have been one of the countless CSA soldiers thrown in the pits.
Owen Guthrie, 10th Arkansas, my ggg grandmother Price's baby brother was shot that first day and it is thought he
later died of his wounds.
My gg grandfather, Sgt. J. D. Pearce of the 8th Arkansas, was wounded, shot "through and through" and recovered
to fight the whole war being in North Carolina when the war ended in 1865. He bathed his wounds at the Bloody Pond
after being shot at the Hornets Nest.
My great grandfather, James Thomas Harper of the 5th Tenn, was there on the first day being wounded in the knee and
being present with the desceased officer was brought in by his men.
So thanks for reminding us all of our heritage.
Linda
