Just some main Confederate Burial Trench I noticed back in 1997 George..The spot where General Johnston expired had an old original tree surounded by the iron grate that marked the actual site. It was noted on the park maps and signs kindve southeast of the Peach Orchard.A very solemn place off by itself.

General Johnston vowed to either conquer or die that day. He had been seriously criticised in the press(as so often is typical from the,"Arm Chair Generals" who have never seen combat) for the recent loss of Ft Donelson and Nashville.

Shiloh was a near thing for the South.Again that determined Grant pulled another one out of the fire.
