i have no idea where he was from, age, dob, parents, etc. she died in 1900 and folks say he headed west. he left a 15 yo, my grandfather, Smith Hamilton Kirk, who took care of himself til he married at 21. there was another child, age 10, who was then raised by my GGM family, when George vanished.
my dad was also named George Henry Kirk. therefore, the huge interest in who he was. i do not know what the H is for in the name of first George Kirk.
in searching ancestry.com (to the best of my ability) i found his name that took me to a James Kirk and Amanda Cochran, who appear to be parents of a George Kirk, born 1857.
i had thought when i found a record of Amanda Kirk in the MS Veteran's Schedule, that she was his widow and info would show up. Your info finds James did not die in the Civil War.
I have no idea which county to visit to dig up info. George appears to not have been a family favorite, as no one knows of him. He is not buried with my GGM, Feletia Smith Kirk, interred in Old Hickory Flat Cemetery, Benton County, MS. All of my older relatives are deceased.
