Re: George Spiers, Co. C, MS Volunteers

Thanks for the info about changes in names of military units. I mainly have done genealogy research and know little about CSA military history.

Please give me some information about my UDC patriot, Ebenezer Prentis Stewart, and A. P. Sones whom he paid to substitute for him apparently after he was in the hospital a number of times. They served in Co. F, 7th MS Infantry. Childhood diseases, yellow fever, etc. were so hard on our country men who had never been exposed to those which caused so many complications & even deaths during that war. Ebenezer was born on Sept. 12, 1839 in Perry Co., MS and died on Aug. 8, 1920 in now Pearl River County, MS.

On Nov. 19,1841, Andrew Jackson Sones married Amelia "Millie" Wallace who was a distant cousin of Ebenezer's wife.

Do you agree with Mother's explanation that many went AWOL when they couldn't find the right person to get permission or get permission from the right officer to go home to check on crops & families?
