lt. Col. Lindsay was ordered to lead the crossing the Tenn. River at Florence, Ala (where Muscle Shoals is located) on Oct. 30, 1864. He commanded the 16th Louisiana Infantry and other detachments of men from several other units. This was on the way north to Tenn. Pontoons were used to cross the river. There was little Union opposition there and Lindsay lost one man killed during the crossing. Hood's Army of Tenn took 15 days to cross the Tenn. River there.
The AOT also retreated through the same cities but you are referring to the trek northward.
