Thanks for the reply. Walt’s book is a descent book. However, he does not even mention the 58th NCT, which is the regiment that I am currently writing about. In September 1863, this regiment, as it went into battle at Chickamauga, had 372 men either absent without leave, or listed as deserters. There are at least 139 more men who have simply disappeared from the records. I want to go out on a limb and say that the 58th NCT had more deserters that any other NC regiment. I just need something to back that up without having to go through all 15 volumes of the Troop books.
