Some companies of the 60th originated in the 105th NC Militia organized in the spring of 1862. My gggrandpa was in Co S, Captained by Johnson L Ward, the Sheriff of Polk County. They became Company G of the 60th, joining as a company. This may have been true of some of the other companies of the 60th. Therefore, it may have ended up with a bunch of gung-ho troops that had been left behind earlier when their cousins and friends marched off with units like the 34th. My gggrandpa died in Shubuta, MS. One brother-in-law at Tullahoma, another at Atlanta, and an Uncle at Bentonville. His friend returned home, married his widow, and raised my ggrandpa.
