that you contact the Gettysburg NPS. It is a remote possibility that your relative's name may appar on Dr. O'Neal's journal.

You should also pick up a copy of "A Strange and Blighted Land, GETTYSBURG: The Aftermath of a Battle" by Gregory Coco. Anyone who had a ancestor killed in this battle should read this book. The recovery and burial of the fallen from both sides is discussed in detail.

As for the burial methods this was taken from the above book: "we examined more than three thousand rebel graves. They were frequently buried in trenches, and there are instances of more than one hundred and fifty in a trench".

Many were buried where they fell or crawled into brush cover where they died and were never buried.
