Here's some more interesting information. Would he perhaps be the Murdock noted below? And no, I am not a relative.

He originally volunteered at Bennettesville, S. C. by Captain Harrington for a period of 12 months. I have not been able to locate this Captain. Assume it was some militia unit.

His records contain a North Carolina pay voucher for the period 1-10 June 1862, 10 days at the rate of $33.33/month*, due $11.10 with the notation "Disch. 10th June. I cannot make out his title, it could be Drill Master at Camp Mango??

The previous pay voucher for the period 1 April - 1 May 1862 is signed by a QM from the 48th Reg. S. C. T. [these initials are not that distinct] I do not find a 48th South Carolina Infantry
