This outfit primarily operated in Western North Carolina, and East Tennessee. They were the unit that carried out the Shelton Laurel executions(not massacre).The regiments colonel was named Allen, and the Lt. colonel was a chap by the name of Keith. The regiment spent a good bit of time fighting "bushwhackers," rounding up deserters, and patroling the mountains of NC. A good number of the regiment were captured in August, 1863, at the cumberland Gap.I'll be in touch with more, as I find the time.
