My "Navy Retired" hat usually resides on the dash board of the car. Going from !-20 to the Northbound Connecter in Atlanta, there's usually a homeless guy standing by the road. He doesn't have a sign, nor does he seem to want anything. A couple of times when I have gone by there, he sees the hat, snaps to and throws a perfect salute. You can tell he learned it from a drill instructor. I salute him back, and he returns to attention, until I pass. It'll just about bring tears to your eyes, thinking about what has got that ol' boy standing by and watching traffic. If I tried to stop I'd get killed by the traffic and be on the news.
On the lighter side, when I was in the Philippines, on Mindoro Island, my First Class Crow on my marine fatigue cover was very shiny. Most of the Philippine soldiers I met saluted me; I just saluted 'em back. You know the rule: when in doubt, salute! LOL Stan
