I just saw former Congressman Ben Jones, who played 'Cooter' on Dukes of Hazzard on Bill O'Rielly's show on Foxnews talking about this. He said he was a life time member of the NAACP and had fought against the KKK. He defended the use and display of the Confederate Battle Flag very well, even with O'Reilly constantly interrupting him.
