Joe, the "38" refers to the barrel length. It is 38 times the bore, or 190 inches, 15.83 feet. All he ones I know of were 38s, but there may have been other lengths at one time or another. My Ubcle Jay was a destrpyer man, a cook. His battle station off Okinawa was in the forward turest. once, before they went to battels stations, a japanese shore battery cleanly took out his stove, without exploding. He always said after that, he was safer in the gun mount! LOL Stan
There was at least one Price (Uncle Jay's name, being my mother's brother) in the 18th Ga., but another company. I haven't found out yet if he was a relative.
