Frank, since you opened up the NWMP door, I cannot pass up this opportunity to mention that my own paternal grandfather, George Charles Boswell, enlisted on 1 June 1875 as sub-constable (# 0168) in Winnipeg, Manitoba under Commissioner G.A. French, assigned to D Troop. He left the Force on 1 June 1881 after a colorful, sometimes illegal and short NWMP term of service. He served in the NWMP during some of its most colorful, action packed days.

One connection he had with the ACW is in the fact that he wound up eye-to-eye dealing with the Sioux who under Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse fled to "Grandmother's Land" (Canada) following their 25 June 1876 defeat of Custer who, himself, had quite a colorful term of service during the ACW leading his Wolverines, the Michigan Cavalry Brigade (wheew is that a tenuous connection)

Do you have some particular connection with the NWMP, Frank?
