What is a neo-Confederate?

There are certainly a lot of "neo-'s" these days. When I was in school I recall such words as neolithic and neonatal and neopolitan. More recently we've begun to use terms like neo-Nazi, neo-Confederate and the one the Dems really like, neo-Conservative. BTW, I'm not one of those. I've been a Conservative all my life, so there's nothing "neo" about me.

I do think that some of these terms, especially "neo-Nazi", "neo-Confederate" and "neo-Con" or "neo-Conservative" are an attempt to connect those who have Southern leanings and those who have Conservative views with the most vile of the three, namely "neo-Nazis", white supremacists, the Klan, the Aryan Nation, etc.

I don't like these games with terms and please don't bore me with a response that the term "neo-Confederate" or "neo-Conservative" has no such connotation.

I think I'm going to stop using the term myself, as I'm concerned its intent is to insult or dismiss the target of the term as a white supremacist or fascist.

Now I feel better.
